1. Eat a plate of fresh steamed vegetables before your meal. Just steam up a whole pot of any type of vegetable without butter or oil and eat them plain. Once you have eaten your plate of veggies, go ahead and eat your meal. Not only are the vegetables good for you, they will fill you up so that you eat less of your meal which will reduce the amount of calories you consume. Steamed vegetables contain no fat and very few calories, so you can eat as much of those as you want and they will provide your body with essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients.

2. No matter what you decide to eat for your meal, push it aside after eating half of it and wait about 5 to 10 minutes. Usually, when you do this you will begin to feel full and will not eat the remaining portion on your plate. This is because by waiting the 5 to 10 minutes, you are giving your brain some time to receive the message from your stomach that you are full. If you still feel hungry after waiting the 5 to 10 minutes, go ahead and continue eating slowly.

3. Set yourself some realistic weight loss goals. Unrealistic goals will only disappoint you and leave you unmotivated to continue your diet when you are not achieving them. A realistic goal would be to lose 2 pounds a week. Anything over that is unhealthy anyway, so keep your goals down to what you can effectively achieve.
