There have been numerous research studies that have shown how Omega 3 fish oils can prevent certain illnesses and disease such as heart disease, high cholesterol, migraines, high blood pressure, depression, autoimmune diseases and other serious conditions.

Clinical trials have been conducted and have proven that Omega 3 oils help to reduce cardiovascular diseases such as heart arrhythmia and heart attacks. They also lower the levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) while increasing good cholesterol (HDL) levels. In addition, Omega 3 fish oils improve blood circulation and reduce the chances of blood clots in the arteries.

Omega 3 fish oils have also been shown to improve brain functioning such as memory. People taking these oils reduce their risk of suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Omega 3 fish oils effectively reduce inflammation in our tissue and blood due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, these oils are helpful for keep inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and rheumatism under control.

Omega 3 fats are actually polyunsaturated fats which contain certain nutrients our bodies need. There are various Omega 3 fats, but the most important are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Fish oils provide an excellent source of DHA and EPA while walnuts and flax seeds are good for ALA.

Typically, Omega 3 fatty acids can be found mostly in oily cold-water fish such as tuna, mackerel and salmon. However, due to contamination and industrial pollution such as PCBs, mercury and lead that can be found in fish today, it’s best to get your fish oils in the form of a supplement.

Omega 3 fish oil supplements can be found in almost any health food store, grocery store, pharmacy or department store. It is a good idea to talk with your doctor before starting these supplements.
