Tofu Women and Chocolate Pie
Tofu, soybean curd to some, a staple food of Asia and often an anomaly to the British palate. You may have heard friends chatting about it, for tofu contains certain phytoestrogens aka a plant based chemical similar to what a woman’s body produces. These are normally the same friends that take part in wholistic things like Omnilux light thearapy…
While I am clearly not a doctor, in the girls locker room there is anecdotal evidence that consuming tofu can alleviate symptoms of menopause like hot flashes. Only one good reason to try the easiest and most delicious tofu recipe ever. All you need is one block of firm silken tofu. (This is the type that is sold in the boxes and you will often find that it is not refrigerated) and approximately 200-300 grams of dark chocolate and a ready made pie crust.
These are readily available in the United States, if you are having problems finding one, you can make your own using a high quality digestive biscuit ( 1 cup) smashed to a powder, mixed with melted butter or margarine (6 tablespoons), and then chilled. The key is a good blender. Melt the chocolate in the top of a double boiler or in the Microwave on Medium for 1 1/2 to four minutes. It should be smooth and easy to pour. Put the block of tofu into the blender or food processor and keep it running while you pour in the melted chocolate, keep it running until it is fine and smooth.Pour the mixture into the ready made pie crust or into small espresso cups or port glasses for more of a mouse like experience. Refrigerate until it is firm. The trick is to make sure it is well blended and use a high quality dark chocolate with at least 65 percent cocoa solids, so you can get the health benefits offered.
