6 Questions To Ask Yourself Before Starting A Diet

May 24th, 2010 posted by admin

Going on a diet is a big decision and it should not be taken lightly. There are many reasons for dieting, but the most important reason is the health benefits. You should not go on a diet because you think you will become more attractive. Losing weight should be done to become healthy, not attractive.

But before you start your diet, there are several questions you should ask yourself.

1. Is this a good time for a diet? If you have a lot of stress, or a rather busy work schedule at the moment, then you should probably delay going on a diet. Since a diet requires a lot of discipline and time, you cannot afford to waste it while your schedule is too busy.

2. How will my life be different afterwards? Think about your life after you have successfully had a diet. Do you think your lifestyle has changed, or do you think you will return to your old ways?

3. Should I seek outside help? Many people are not disciplined or knowledgeable on what to do when on a diet. These people will likely fail. However, if you seek outside help you may gain both the knowledge and the support to succeed.

4. Will I cheat? This is a big question. If you think you will cheat on your diet, for example slipping in a slice of cheese cake from time to time (“this isn’t cheating; it’s just ONE slice!”) then you should probably go back to question 3. You probably should not go on a diet by yourself. Seek outside support.

5. Can I actually change my eating habits? If you really love junk food and rarely eat fruits and vegetables, you may have a real uphill battle in front of you. Consider a practice diet of only a few days and see how you feel.

6. Do I have a long term plan? How will your eating habits change after your diet? Will you revert back to your old ways?
