5 Reasons Why the Zone Diet Will Work For You
The Zone Diet, created by Barry Spears, is based on the idea that the consumption of carbohydrates raises your insulin level, which will allow further calories to be stored in your fat tissues. By eating less carbohydrates and more fat, you will in fact lose weight. Keeping yourself in this low insulin “Zone” can be difficult, considering so many wonderful foods contain high amounts of carbohydrates (pasta, pastries, muffins, cereal–the list goes on). But the diet’s popularity is almost equal to its effectiveness. Here are five reasons why the Zone Diet should work for you.
1. It’s fast. The Zone diet will see positive weight loss extremely quickly: three to five pounds in the first two weeks, followed by a pound to a pound and a half from then on in.
2. Reduction in Triglyceride levels. High levels of Triglyceride can lead to heart disease and pancreatitis. Carbohydrates are a major contributor to high levels of this glyceride.
3. Better eating habits. Since the Zone Diet recommends a 40:30:30 diet (that is, 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 30% fat). Because of this, you will learn to have a more balanced diet than you did beforehand, including portion sizing.
4. Less desire for processed carbohydrate foods. Those on the Zone Diet claimed that after only a few weeks, they lost their desire for fast foods, and other unhealthy options available. Even if you don’t stick to the diet, you will have eliminated other harmful foods that will benefit you throughout life.
5. More fruits and vegetables. Since the Zone requires the elimination of many healthy foods, one of the major benefits is that you will eat more fruits and vegetables, which contain natural sugars and a plethora of vitamins.
Like any other diet, there are definite risks involved. Prior to beginning the Zone Diet, consult your physician for approval and restrictions.
